What have we been up to?
Banana Bread!
Year 2 were so excited to continue exploring nutrition as part of our science lessons so we followed a recipe and baked some banana bread!
We carefully followed the recipe, weighing and measuring the ingredients then stirring, mixing and folding them together. The banana bread took a long time to bake but the next day we were able to decorate and, most importantly, eat!!
Everyone agreed it was DELICIOUS!
Science - Food Tasting!
As part of our science topic, Animals Including Humans, we have been learning about what our bodies need to be healthy. We looked at the Eatwell plate and the different types of food groups that are necessarry for a varied and healthy diet.
To exand our knowledge and try new things, we had a food tasting afternoon. We tried something from each food group and described the taste, texture and smell. Even Hamilton the hamster enjoyed trying some new foods! We discovered that Hamsters are omnivores and can eat meat as well as seeds, veggies and fruit! He really enjoyed ham on crackers!

History - Special Visitor
In History, we have been learning about schools in the past and comparing them to how school is today.
Mrs Wright's Grandma came in to school and we interviewed her to see what school was like when she was our age!
It seems like schools have changed a lot.
Year 2 asked some fantastic questions and were suprised by some of the answers our visitor gave. Schools have changed a lot and we definitely prefer school how it is now! Here are just a few examples from our interview!
Were your school dinners good?
Yes! on Fridays we would have fish, chips and peas!
What lessons did you do?
Sums (maths), RE, Local history, sports, dancing, latin and art. Sports was my favourite because I loved playing rounders and cricket.
Did your teacher read you stories?
Yes but they were all Bible stories, not picture books like you have now.
Was it cold in your school?
Yes, sometimes we had to sit and work in our coats and gloves because there was no heating.
Year 2 were challenged to take a simple Lego or stickle brick and turn it into something else! They created a design plan and then used the resources to try and make their design come to live. They were so creative with their ideas and the models turned out great!
