                                              The Nest

Welcome to The Nest, our onsite SEMH provision which sits on its own grounds.

The provision has 5 full time members of staff and is overseen by the SENDCO/ SEMH AP lead.

Summer 1: Plants/Minibeasts

This half term we will be exploring plants including common flowers and trees, their parts and the job they do.

We will also look at minibeasts and how they differ from other animals including their habitats.

Walk on the Wild Side - Animal experience

This week we were lucky enough to be visited by , ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ and a range of wonderful animals. Vicky taught us some very interesting facts, for example did you know that African land snails have 10,000 teeth!

We were then able to touch and hold some of the animals including cockroaches, millipedes, an iguana, snake and fluffy chinchilla.

We even got up close with a Tarantula and the children were much braver than Mrs Bastian!

Spring 2: Superheroes

This half term we will be exploring Superheroes and reading all of the amazing texts below. We will also be exploring Neurodiversity's and the superpowers that they provide us with.

Here are some of the fabulous things we have done so far:

  • made our own Supertatos
  • dressed as Superheroes
  • role played in our own 'Supermarket'
  • celebrated a special birthday

The Zone

In Spring one, we visited Huddersfield's giants 'Zone'. We spent the first half of the session playing team building games with one of the players before spending the second half on the giant indoor adventure play area.

Everyone got involved and had a great time, including Mr Dawtrey who could not resist going down the biggest, bumpiest slide!

Spring 1: Animals (Bears)

This half term we looked at animals including humans. We were able to explore our own bodies inside and out and concentrated on emotions.

We explored animals, their body parts and grouped them in various ways before concentrating on bears. We were able to go on Bear hunts and make Bear caves to explore.

Then, we had sent a morning playing in the snow which was extremely exciting!

Ledston Estate

In the Autumn term we visited the Ledston Estate for a fabulous day out in nature. We were able to make our own paper version of spinning helicopters and learn all about the wildlife we might see in the forest. We even had a cuddle with the teachers very friendly pet dog.

We then explored the open fields and forests looking for the signs of Autumn and minibeast hunting.

It was a tiring day but we enjoyed the great outdoors and I am sure you will agree, from the pictures, that we had a fabulous time.
